Modern Black Handrail

This little stairwell is really coming along. Replacing the carpet and doing shiplap got this moving in the right direction. I really wanted to replace the builder grade handrail with a modern black steel rail. The white painted rail is fine but really a mess with kids. A steel handrail not only looks sleek and modern but is super durable.

A look at the stairwell before.

As I started researching different options I came across Bold MFG & Supply. Their handrails were EXACTLY what I had pictured for our stairs. They allow you to customize the railing to your size, color, and bracket style. The best part is the affordability. I really did not think this type of railing would be in my budget. I was really surprised by the quality and price.

This modern handrail comes in satin black powder coat or raw unfinished steel. The rails are designed for easy installation and the provided measuring guide makes it easy to order the correct size. Yes, you can customize to the exact size you need. Ok, let’s talk about brackets. I chose the Minimal style to fit my aesthetic. I really liked the squared clean lines of this Minimal style. It was a tough choice because the Linear style is also a great option.

Bold MFG & Supply made my Pinterest dreams come true! When you buy an existing house, you miss out on on the customization. We have really taken things into our hands to make this house feel like “us”. The stairwell looks like a whole new space with this rail. The modern steel and bold black is the perfect statement combo.

Bold MFG & Supply doesn’t just do handrails either. You have to take a look at their mailboxes, firepits, shelves, tables, and other beautiful pieces. You can totally order online and have the item shipped right to your home. However, they are based out of the great state of Texas (my home state) in Austin. It sure would be a great excuse to go give them a visit and stop by Magnolia Market while you are there. They have even so kindly given my readers 10% off with code WLD10 on Etsy or the online shop.

The stairwell still has a few more items on the to-do list before I call it done. Wow, even if I stopped here, I could die happy women. I love walking up the stairs and seeing this beautiful statement rail. Be sure to go check out Bold MFG & Supply and start making your home more you!

Timeline Wood Shiplap

The stairwell is really just like the story “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie.” Once I started one project it led to another and here we are. I found the perfect solution to brighten up these walls and add dimension. When I found these amazing pre-finished shiplap boards from Timeline, there was not stopping this project.

I have always envisioned wrapping my stairwell in beautiful molding. However, it just seemed like a lot of work. Finding a molding to fit behind baseboards and trim is tricky. Then once you get it all up there is still all the painting to be done. Needless to say, I put this project off for a long time because of all the obstacles.

A look at the stairwell Before we started.

Well, that all change when I discovered Timeline Wood. They actually make shiplap that is thin enough to fit behind baseboards and window trim. It also comes with the classic nickel-gap spacing just like real shiplap! I was so excited about all of those features that my stairwell started to come to life.

Here is the best part of Timeline Shiplap: It comes PRE-FINISHED! That is right people. The shiplap is already painted in the color you choose. Timeline offers white, greige, black, green, and navy all ready to be installed. Once you put it up on the wall, you are done! That is worth its weight in gold right there. You just need to caulk, fill the nails holes and do touch up. A huge time saver to have the majority of the painting already done!

I was so thrilled about this amazing shiplap and got right to work on my stairwell. Mr. Whitelane got an unexpected work trip out of the country so I had to call in my friend Coby to help. He did our kitchen backsplash on the main floor and basement. Coby also does trim and finish work. He was amazing to step in and help us since Mr. Whitelane couldn’t be here.

It was such a relief to not have another step to do after the boards were installed. The pre-spaced gap, the clean smooth finish, and thin non-warping MDF made this install super easy. A DIYers dream is everything this Timeline Shiplap is made of. Timeline is also giving you 10% off sitewide with code “WHITELANE10.”

I kind of want to shiplap all of the things now. It is so simple and makes such a statement! I am thinking the black shiplap is next on my list of projects. 🙂 I just need to pick a wall.

Stanton Carpet Stair Update

The following post contains affiliate links and is sponsored by Stanton Carpet and Lemco Flooring Desings. Read my full disclosure here.

I frequently get asked what my most loved project is to date. Or what my favorite transformation has been. Mr. Whitelane and I have done our fair share of DIY and home improvements over the years. From houses to yards, and everything in between. I have to say, this Stanton Carpet could be my favorite so far.

Let’s start from the beginning and take a look at where this stairwell started. Dark, brown, and shag are all the words that come to my mind. Which is not at all what you would want a stairwell to look like. I know what you are probably thinking. What is wrong with that carpet? Well, for starters our baby would pull the carpet fibers and threads out all the time. The high pile of this style is very high maintenance. It only looks good right after you vacuum. Especially on the stairs, the old carpet got matted and dingy looking even when it was not dirty! It drove me nuts how bad it looked all the time. I knew I didn’t like this carpet from the moment we bought the house. It was always the plan to rip it out at some point.

I absolutely fell in love with the Bravo style carpet from the Atelier Journey Collection. It is everything I envisioned for our stairwell and hallway. Low pile, modern design, neutral color, and very durable. I mean look at the gorgeous herringbone pattern. What’s not to love? A timeless and classy carpet style that fits the aesthetic of our home so much better! Bravo also comes in other colors too. The fiber is 100% Scotchgard 3M which makes it a great choice for the stairs (or anywhere).

I have been literally counting down the days until the brown shag carpet was gone. Lemco Flooring & Designs did a fabulous job installing this Stanton Carpet. If you are local to Utah, they are THE PLACE for all your flooring needs. I can not say enough great things about Lemco. I have used Lemco since before I even had a blog. That really says a lot because quality flooring and install is hard to come by. They carry all the brands including my favorite Stanton Carpet. Ryan, from Lemco, came to measure and listened to all the concerns and wants I had with the carpet. I already had my mind made up on the Stanton Carpet Bravo style. Next, the installer did an incredible job. Stairs can be tricky and easily messed up. I am happy to report the installer took great care to place the seams in all the right places and give this Bravo Style all her glory. 🙂 They even vacuumed and cleaned everything before they left.

What a difference the right carpet can make! This Stanton Carpet brought this stairwell up to date. I still have a lot more plans for this space. This was a huge step in the right direction. So, what about the rest of the carpet that is in the bedrooms? Don’t you worry! I am saving and planning all I can to get rid of every last inch of that dreaded brown shag carpet. The hallway and stairs have completely transformed with this beautiful Bravo carpet. I can not wait to get my hands on the bedrooms. I just hope they look half as good as the hallway and stairs turned out.

You have to take a look at Stanton Carpet and all the quality styles they offer. Then make sure to visit Lemco to make it all happen. This carpet has surpassed all my expectations (and they are high) for this area. The durability and quality are really unmatched. I get so giddy going up and down the stairs now. Cheesy, I know. Am I the only who gets excited about this kind of stuff? There is something very rewarding about seeing your inspirations come to life with the help of wonderful companies like Stanton Carpet and Lemco Flooring Designs.
