A New Year
I can not believe 2016 is over! It was a year of growth, trials, success, learning, and adventures. I think, overall, 2016 was good to our family. I started this little blog with no idea what I was getting into. I just knew I loved DIY and design. Mr. Whitelane and I had been doing home improvements to our various houses for years. I had more tools than most men I knew. Lowe’s and Home Depot was my second home. I loved reading other home improvement and design blogs. I knew that I wanted to share my projects, style, and ideas too.
I can still remember sitting at my Mom’s house during my little one’s nap time one day. We had sold our townhouse and were living in a temporary home. We had started plans to build a new house. I sat in the rocking chair browsing Instagram. That is when I decided to start my own blog. I came up with White Lane Decor and started a new adventure. After the kids went to bed that night, I started trying to build my blog website. I had no idea how to build a website. I spent countless nights, while my kids slept, trying to design the perfect website. I learned a lot about domains, coding, and all kinds of things I never thought were part of blogging. I was so happy with the finished product. I could finally focus on blogging. Well, a year later, the website has another new design (not by me). I love sharing all my projects and ideas. I feel so blessed to have this creative outlet to share our home and projects.
I am excited to see what this year brings. It has been fun to see all the design trend predictions for 2017. Pantone released “Greenery” as the color of the year. I think it is a fun, fresh pop of color. However, I don’t think last years color of the year was too big of a success. Some trends, I think will stick around this year. Natural wood tones have been a big hit and will continue to bring warmth to a room. I also think things are moving to modern clean lines and will continue to be popular. Everyone loves to add texture through patterns and that won’t change. Mixing metals will probably also be something we see a lot more of. Mr. Whitelane and I have a lot of projects in mind for the new year (including a nursery). I can’t wait to share this year’s adventures!
