The Farm Sink Rethink

I know what your thinking. Sinks? Didn’t we already have this conversation? Yes. Yes, we sure did. Here is the problem, I still can’t stop thinking about that stainless farm sink. However, I had just accepted that we had already been down that road and I had all the reasons why NOT to get one.. Then we walked through a house almost done in our same floorplan that had a farm sink. My husband immediately said, “We did one of those right?” AAHHHHHHH! Then the mind torture started all over again. Did I make the right choice? The farm sink looks so good. Will I hate my sink? Will I regret not listening? Well, you get the idea….

Mr. Whitelane said we should have done a stainless farm sink. I obviously, not completely convinced about my under mount, immediately agreed. So I knew it was going to cost more to change to the farm sink. Because of a series of unfortunate events, we were able to work out getting the farm sink we wanted. Cue the choir – HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH! It was like it was meant to be , right? Haha 🙂

At this point, I was like ok I better get this stainless farm sink and be done. Here is the deal. I have done even more research since the option is back on the table. I asked tons and tons of people, who actually have stainless farm sinks in their house, how they have held up. My main concern was the front apron scratching with jean buttons and belt buckles. Not one person had this problem. Just to be safe I looked up what could be done IF it does get scratches. It actually is super simple to buff out the scratches with some inexpensive products found at local stores. Ok, so that solves the whole scratching concern that previously stopped me from choosing the stainless farm sink to start with.

The other concern that stopped me, from originally choosing the stainless farm sink, was trendiness. Is the farm sink just a trend that will go out style in a few years. I mean your cabinets and plumbing are completely different for a farm sink than an under mount sink. It will not be easy or cheap to take out the farm sink later down the road. It is a commitment that is not worth changing. We plan on being in the house for a little while and I don’t want to choose something that goes out of style while we are there. Especially something like a sink. The sink is a focal point of the kitchen. So of course, I looked into what people are saying about farm sinks going out of style. They have been “in” for a few years. Well here is the thing, nobody really knows. Some say they will and others say they won’t. Moral of the story, you have to go with what you love. If you love it enough, then you won’t have a problem even when it does go out of style. Also, if it fits with the style of your house then a farm sink can be timeless.

So then we went through the options of what type of stainless farm sink. I was searching a few options but I knew exactly what I wanted.  I wanted a 70/30 divider in the stainless farm sink. I really wanted a lower bridge (lower bowl divider as you can see in the picture below) sink that I talked about in my previous sink post. I didn’t even know if that existed in a stainless farm sink. THEN Mr. Whitelane found THE ONE! It’s like when you are trying on wedding dresses and as soon as you put the right one on you just “know.”  The “strive” kitchen sink by Kohler. I just knew this was THE ONE. I was so excited when Mr. Whitelane showed me this sink. It was everything I had been looking for. Undermount, front apron, stainless steel, lower bowl divider, and need I say more? We are still in the process of getting the farm sink choice finalized with the builder. I still feel really good about the choice and I think I will be much happier in the long run. I have always loved farm sinks and even if it is trendy, I will love it regardless. I can’t wait to see it all finished this summer. So go ahead, tell me all your thoughts about my indecisive sink debacle….
